What is Bisphenol A (BPA)?

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a toxic chemical that is used in the manufacturing process of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastic is used in food storage containers such as baby bottles, water bottles and Tupperware; epoxy resins are used in the internal coating for food and beverage cans to protect the food from direct contact with the metal.  Although they have been used for many years, it is now known to cause harmful irreversible effects in newborns, infants and anyone who is exposed to enough of it. It is so prominent in our food storage devices and containers that 93% of Americans have testable amounts in their bodies right now.

BPA has been discovered to leach out into any food or liquid that it is containing. The leaching process is also accelerated by heat and the age of the plastic. This is especially important to understand because mothers often heat baby formula bottles in the microwave, which is increasing the amount of toxic chemicals being leached out. Once in the food or beverage we innocently ingest it and poison our bodies.
